Thrift Store Pickup.
A favorite thing to do on a day off is thrift store browsing. I owe much of my book collection to the thrift stores.
Today for a $1.50 I picked up:
Jazz by Toni Morrison
&
Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha by Roddy Doyle.
Six quarters for a Booker Prize & Nobel Prize in Literature. Amazing.

Book Review: The End of the Road by John Barth
Where do I start, what do I say…? Do I start with the main character Jacob Horner who doesn’t have an opinion one way or the other…? He’s never up or down, excited or sad, happy or angry. This Jacob Horner never takes a side one way or another and somehow had the ability to ruin the lives of Joe and Rennie Morgan. Or do I start with the Morgan’s..? A couple...
This was intended as a bombshell, I believe, but I was not in an explodable...
– Jacob Horner. The End of the Road by John Barth
Everyone should read John Barth
People won’t but they should. Currently reading The End of the Road. It’s hilarious, dark, and twisted.
What would F. Scott Fitzgerald think...?
Was working last night so I just logged on to take a look at the Oscar nods. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button seems to be nominated for everything. I haven’t seen the movie but I can’t help to think that F. Scott Fitzgerald would be quite proud of himself. His little short story is all the talk in Hollywood.

The Book Club.
Well we haven’t had our first meeting. We’ve picked a book though and that’s a start. As I’m the host of our first get together the pressure of picking the first book fell on my shoulders. I have a very unique taste in authors. As my wife would say not a taste everyone else would share. It’s one of the main reasons I wanted to get involved in a book club. I tend to...
Book Review: The Sportswriter by Richard Ford
I have never written a book review before so bare with me. There’s a first for everything.
This is the first piece of work I have read by Richard Ford. I’ve always wanted to read his Pulitzer Prize winning novel Independence Day so I thought I’d start from the beginning and read the first of a three part series. The three books in the trilogy are The Sportswriter, Independence...

Old Lahaina Book Emporium
My wife, daughter and I just got back from 14 days in beautiful Maui, Hawaii. It was a great trip spent with family. It was wonderful to have a break from the winter months and get some sun on our skin.
Being the bookaholic I am, my wife googled “bookstores Maui Hawaii” before we left. What a woman. Anyways Old Lahaina Book Emporium came up. It looked from what I could tell through...
